We provide people in treatment for cancer a night of entertainment, nourishment and community.
A life that revolves around a life-threatening illness often leaves a person feeling disconnected from the rest of the world. As a caring community, our support and generosity is crucial to their overall well-being.
Many research studies show the positive effect live theatre and music has on people’s lives, both physically and psychologically. Our hope is to bring joy and happiness to as many community members affected by life-threatening illness as possible, if only for a few hours.
All of our events have the same characteristics.
- We provide an opportunity for people affected by life-threatening illness, such as cancer and ALS, to leave their worries behind, relax and enjoy an entertaining event.
- Our events are group oriented so that our guests experience companionship with others who are in a similar situation as theirs, letting them know that they are not alone.
- Many of our guests are not able to financially afford going out to a restaurant or to a musical. All of our guests (patients and their caregivers) are invited to our events free of a charge.
- Our events are not fundraisers, therefore we do not solicit donations from our guests at our events. We want our guests to be able to enjoy the event without any strings attached.
- We provide an opportunity for the community to demonstrate that we are all part of the same community and that no one should feel isolated or left out because of illness.
“I have been going to the MGH for treatment of my cancer and it was there I first noticed the flyers about To Show We Care and the offer to attend A Christmas Carol free of charge.
My wife and I needed a break from all the cancer appointments and Chemotherapy so I called. My wife and I did attend the event and met others going through cancer treatments with their families by their side.
I cannot tell you how good I felt that people and donors made this all possible. Cancer is terrible but the kindness and generous donors made this night special for us.
Thank you To Show We Care and all the volunteers and donors for making this possible.”
“What a great organization. This was my first musical I have ever been too. It was a real break from all the chemotherapy, radiation and surgery.
The wonderful buffet before the show was fantastic. Such a great thing to do, looking out for people in distress.
This organization is the real thing, thank you for reaching out.”
“I was so impressed with Mr. Tyler and his volunteers at To Show We Care who provided such a fun, memorable evening.
We were treated to a delicious meal and an amazing show, 42nd Street. I was truly amazed by the talented stars in the production and we even got to meet them after the show.
I met so many brave people who are fighting for their lives against cancer and we all had big smiles on our faces thanks to this wonderful organization.
I will never forget this very special evening and I thank Mr. Tyler, his volunteers and his sponsors for taking the time to provide such a fun event.”
